I connect people and communities together to get the most from technology and the web. People come first, always, so I like listening to their stories and finding a techology solution to help them.
I’m currently working on Connecting Care with @lasaict. This is a project to help voluntary sector adult social care providers understand and get the most from their technology and to take advantage of all the digital innovations available for those they support or care for.
I am the UK & Europe Regional Ambassador for NetSquared, a TechSoup global network of face to face meet-up events where people interested in digital can meet people from the non-profit community to share ideas, learn from each other and grow the digital skills of our voluntary and community sector. With @paulineroche we jointly organise the Net2Midlands meet up for organisations in the West & East Midlands.
In 2013 I co-ran
the first ever (now five) #vcsscamps, which are digital unconferences for people in CVSs, infrastructure organisations (see ‘About CVSs’) and other membership or support organisations.
I also deliver tailored social media training, drop-in surgeries and one to one sessions for communities, churches and particularly people in those infrastructure organisations mentioned above. I have run or taken part in social media surgeries that range from a few people in a coffee shop to a stand at a county show, a tent on a beach and a space at a music festival! I was at NAVCA for six years leading a national ICT development programme for local infrastructure organisations with a team of nine regional ICT Champions.
In 2009 I was one of the team who created @oursocietyuk as voice to counter the Big Society and to enable communities to tell their stories of Our Society. I’m a supporter of all things digital and ways to help community and voluntary sector people gain skills and knowledge through using the web, for example using e-learning which I’ve worked on at Learning Pool.
I like listening, connecting people together and real beer & dislike seeing the wheel being reinvented … and sweetcorn. I can usually be found in a social media surgery, on a train or drinking real ale. Sometimes it’s even better when these coincide …
Social Media is a conversation, so if I can help your thinking with any of these please say Hello. The easiest way to find me is on Twitter, I’m @watfordgap.
